Surprising benefits of working with Cheri will leave you surprised too. Have you ever seen your child struggle with no idea how to help them? Even though my older children were successfully finishing high school or already in college, I was out of ideas.

Year after year, I saw my son gradually fall behind in reading comprehension. He never liked to read even though he passed his phonetics reading program. When he was young, I remember being thrilled that he successfully decoded words and read paragraphs. However after each annual achievement test, I was puzzled to see his reading comprehension scores fall further and further behind. What was I missing?

At first, I required him to follow a health program to rid his body of yeast and confirmed that he was yeast-free by a medical practitioner who performed a blood analysis. Although I felt this was an important part of improving his ability to focus, he continued to struggle. Thankfully, I was referred to Cheri Moore by a friend who told me how Cheri used brain integration techniques to help smart kids who were doing poorly in school.

Working With Cheri

The journey was filled with surprises. With Cheri’s help, my son benefitted from auditory brain integration training. But, he continued to struggle with reading comprehension. Interestingly while taking a standardized achievement test, Cheri noticed he became fatigued while listening to her instructions. This was a surprise to me. Wasn’t he was an auditory learner? I was amazed as she showed me the list of auditory processing behavioral characteristics. He had many of them.

At Cheri’s recommendation, my son completed a hearing test. My husband and I were astonished to learn that my son’s hearing test showed mild hearing loss on low and high frequencies. Hearing loss? We were told his hearing loss was not severe enough to qualify him for a hearing assistance device. Thankfully, Cheri recommended auditory integration training to strengthen his hearing system.

The Benefits of Two Auditory Integration Training Programs:

After ten programs over a period of two weeks, my son’s hearing tested in the normal range on all frequencies except two. Cheri cautioned me that auditory integration training does not cure hearing loss. It strengthens auditory pathways from his hearing system to his brain. His unique type of hearing loss meant he may continue to need auditory integration training once a year to strengthen his hearing system. Hearing loss could also get much worse. She recommended a yearly hearing test. The benefits of two auditory training programs were:

  • Reading comprehension on grade level
  • Excelled academically in formal logic and Latin
  • Improved ability to express himself
  • Joined his high school speech and debate club

Our son won several awards in his debate club. Surprisingly during the year-end regional invitational tournament, he became a semi-finalist. What a gift to see your child enjoy themselves.

The Surprising Benefit

As promised, Cheri continued to follow-up. He was now in college. Surprisingly, my son asked me to contact Cheri because he was having some difficulties. I was thankful when Cheri asked to meet with him at no cost. Her studies left her concerned about his visual processing skills.

Cheri quickly built a rapport with my now adult son. A screening evaluation confirmed strong auditory processing skills. However, she noticed weaker movement on one side of his face. Thus, additional hearing tests were recommended from Cheri. She explained there were several different types of hearing loss. Hearing aids are now known to benefit people with mild hearing loss. Overall, hearing loss makes it difficult to listen when there was background competing noise and/or speech. Testing of his outer cochlear hairs showed additional hearing loss. His different types of hearing loss now qualified him for a hearing aid.

Visual Processing Difficulties Found

After our son shared that he struggled to keep vision clear while reading and looking from one place to another, Cheri completed a few activities to show him why. She found concerns and shared benefits of an appointment with a neuro-rehabilitation optometrist. Testing showed that his visual processing difficulties were negatively affecting his ability to keep his vision clear while reading making comprehension more difficult. It was also difficult for him to look near to far and far to near. Now we understood why reading with comprehension was difficult. We are so excited for him. Our son was so excited about the benefits of vision therapy that he drove two hours every week to work with a vision therapist. In just two months, school became easier. He appears happier and more relaxed. And, we are saving for hearing aids.
